A Family’s Loss

Two weeks we were in Colorado and watched the Super Bowl. I wish this post was about the Denver Broncos crushing loss to our Seattle Seahawks. But, it is not.

Last week, our beloved, loyal and greatest dog EVER passed away. Hank was with us for 10 years and we miss him terribly. Making the decision to end his pain was the toughest of decisions but we know it was the right thing. It set him free.

Where to even begin describing how much he meant to us… Too many memories; too many road trips, camping, hiking, and chasing tennis balls in the backyard.

I’ll keep this simple and then add a few pictures from the Hank years.

Things I miss:

  • Hearing his toenails go click-click, as he walks on the wood floors
  • Getting out of the car and seeing his little face strain to look outside, from the front window. Once he sees you, he always barked and did his happy dance at the door.
  • His (loud) bark
  • He’d follow you around the house. Always.
  • Regardless of his location in the house, once you opened the closet door, where his food lived, he was at your side.

Initally, we gated him in the kitchen. He easily could have jumped over and burst through the gates. Never did.

I’m sorry for your loss. We had to put down our dog last spring. My very first dog. And it was brutal. I hope your son is handling it ok (you too).

  2. So sorry. What a beautiful dog.

  3. Auntie Trish says:

Hank was such a sweetie. You guys had lots of fun times together; he will be missed.

  4. Tim K says:

So sorry to hear about Hank. Looking at these photos I think it’s clear he was as lucky to find you as you were to find him. And so glad the boy got to know him too — that photo from the Metolius will be treasured! Remembering all the good times will make this year a bit easier.
