Ketchup time

Wow, too many weeks without a post. No excuses.

Start with running. After the disappointment of Eugene, decided to run a marathon I ran last year but didn’t really enjoy – the Green River Marathon. The middle part of the course runs through an industrial area, south of Alki (West Seattle), on a busy street. Not too pleasant. But, since I was trained, and the race is FREE, figured why not.

Unfortunately, not my day again. Will not make excuses but it was the warmest day of the year and I lost a contact at mile 19 but regardless, should have finished faster than 4:12. Maybe I should just be happy to finish, after dropping out of Eugene. Took it easy for 2 weeks and now focusing on Victoria, BC in early October. Neighbor Dave and Annie ran it last year and recommend it. Another smallish, mostly flat race. And a huge plus would be getting on the Victoria clipper in downtown Seattle. Two hours later, in the harbor of Victoria then walk to the hotel. Biggest negative, since we don’t have Will’s US passport yet, will be solo trip.

Just a few days after Green River, Will and I boarded an airplane to Baltimore to meet family in Rehoboth Beach, DE. YES, I was very concerned about flying solo with a 2.5 year old toddler. Although, I was nervous about how I would occupy his time, since the return would be an extra hour in the air, I was more concerned about that leg of the journey.

The flight East wasn’t too bad. Luckily, we had the middle and window seat, so the entire time sitting on the tarmac, Will gazed out the window in amazement of all the planes and luggage “choo-choo” nearby. During the flight we; colored, read books, stuck stickers on the window, kicked the seat ahead of us, more stickers, slammed the tray table a few hundred times and played with more stickers.

Brother John picked us up at BWI and we headed SE to the beach. Think we left the airport about 10:15pm so didn’t arrive at the beach until about 12:15am. Mom and her friend Ann were there to greet us. The next day the crew arrived; cousin Erica, her husband Casey and kids Cole and Chloe plus Erica’s (half) brothers Drew, Chad and her dad (my uncle) Bill.

Great to see everyone and the weather was so nice. Not crazy hot yet. Only upper 70s, low 80s. We rented bikes and rode to the beach each day.

Yes, Will LOVED the beach. Water was still too cold to swim but he could have played in the sand for weeks.
